A stronger local water supply starts below the surface. To achieve this, our Liberty team has been working to bring Well 40D serving the Bellflower and Norwalk communities back to its full production capacity.
When Well 40D began experiencing a steady decline in water production over the past few years, our team took it offline to determine the cause. In the meantime, purchased water from the Metropolitan Water District (MWD) helped us continue to meet our customers' needs.
During the casing removal process, our contractor discovered a hole in one section of the column pipe, common with age and years of use. After identifying the likely cause of the reduced performance, our team set to work rehabilitating the well with the goal of returning its production to normal. The column pipe and other well components were replaced.
These improvements have improved Well 40D's capacity to 700-750 gallons per minute, which is equal to or even above its original production ability. Now that it's back online, the well will help strengthen the local water supply, improve system efficiency, and reduce dependence on the more expensive purchased water from MWD.
At Liberty, we are committed to providing safe, reliable water service to our customers.
