Liberty operates 35 Remote Automated Weather Stations (RAWS) that work alongside a broader state-wide network to give us a clearer picture of local weather conditions. These stations are a key part of our wildfire mitigation efforts, as they help track real-time weather conditions like wind speed, humidity, and temperature, all of which are factors the Liberty team uses to help evaluate wildfire risk.
This information helps our team make data-driven, timely decisions about how we operate the electric grid, especially during high-risk weather. It also plays an important role in determining if and when we need to implement a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) to reduce wildfire risk for our communities.
To keep these stations running accurately, we perform routine maintenance every year, which may involve replacing sensors that can wear out over time. As fire season begins and conditions get hotter and drier, our crews have been fast-tracking repairs and tune-ups so we can stay ahead of any potential threats, thereby helping to keep you and your community safe.
